Sand

Was able to find "play sand" at the local Home Depot.  It was very cheap at only ~$4 per 50 lbs.  I bought 200 lbs and dumped it in the tank:

Enjoy!

Tank Totally Filled!

The tank is finally filled and I started it up. The pump runs great! It is a lot quieter than I expected it to run. The pump moves a ton of water and the chiller works great too! I was getting some micro-bubbles but I fixed that by raising the water in the sump and installing the mechanical filter bags.

Pump Arrived!

My pump just arrived back from Dolphin Pumps. Looks like they did a good job but we'll see tonight when I hook it up.

Tank Filled!

So last night I finished filling the tank. I didn't fill the overflows or the sump yet because my pump is being returned to me today totally fixed. I did make some extra RO water so after I install the pump tonight I can be ready to test the whole system.

Tank Filling

I am currently filling the tank. I'm using RO water so it takes forever to make 180 gallons. However, I'm not in too big of a rush because the main system pump is off being checked over and fixed at the manufacturer. Below are some photos of the tank during filling:

I should have it mostly filled tonight. I'll try to clean up the wires and take more photos tonight.

Pre - Tank

I created this blog to document my setup and running of my new 180 gallon fishtank. I already have a 75 gallon freshwater tank setup at my office. The tank I wanted I had been following since August but, at the time, it was more than I wanted to spend. Luckily for me, the gentleman selling it had to move just after the first of the year and kept lowing the price. He actually lowered it more than I was going to offer him and I called him and setup the purchase.

On December 20th, 2008, I went and picked up the tank with two friends. It was a lot bigger than I imagined it would be. We loaded it up and moved it home. It fit perfectly in our living room.

Welcome

Welcome to my new blog about my 180 gallon fishtank.
